The Process Concerning the Sending Christian Assembly
Missional living is definitely a buzz-phrase that is all over the place these days. the idea that we are required to title bodies of Christ, missional, has for eternity been a tiny bit different to me. I ask you, shouldnt all church buildings be missional in their very character? all churches, at its very nature, desire to connect their culture and city with the good news as a missionary would in a overseas country? Isnt this what the bodies of Christ is encouraged to do in the great commission in Matthew 28:19? Our own local area needs this type of church. Church in Austin is slowly going to what Jesus instructed in the Gospels.
The messiah gives the direction in Acts 1:8 saying, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8 personifies this concept as, right before Jesus Christ ascends to Heaven, He directs the disciples on a story that would start right in their local community. He begins with their local place of Jerusalem, and then stretches the call to the far parts of the world.
As believers, we are not motivated to privacy, but to be missional believers who are aggressively going out and finding communities right where they are with the message of Jesus. We have seen this throughout history: God urges Abraham on a mission to move from his home and his people and go to the town that God would show him (Gen. 12:1), God motivated Moses on a exploration to save an enslaved people and lead them to independence (Exodus 3:8-10), God motivated Jesus on a journey to world to restore all things to Himself through the cross (Colossians 1:20). And now God is sending believers on a story to engage communities, cities, tribes, and even nations with the story of Christ(Matt. 28:19 Mark 6:7 Luke 10:1 John 20:21 Acts 1:8). If we resist this urge and continue to perceive the church buildings like a members only country club ” requesting that people fix their abilities, pay their dues, and come to our place of worship God will continue His mission without us.
